Kia LaBeija’s first large-scale performance work, (𝘜𝘯𝘡π˜ͺ𝘡𝘭𝘦π˜₯) π˜›π˜©π˜¦ π˜‰π˜­π˜’𝘀𝘬 π˜ˆπ˜€π˜΅, a Performa 19 co-commission with Performance Space New York. Offering a contemporary interpretation of the third act of Oskar Schlemmer’s early Bauhaus performance π˜›π˜³π˜ͺ𝘒π˜₯π˜ͺ𝘀 π˜‰π˜’𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘡 (π˜‹π˜’π˜΄ π˜›π˜³π˜ͺ𝘒π˜₯π˜ͺ𝘴𝘀𝘩𝘦 π˜‰π˜’𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘡𝘡), 1922, which relates to fantasy, mysticism, and the infinite void of the black stage, LaBeija inserted her own narrative, using five artists, Daniella Agosto, Selena Ettienne, Khristina Cayetano, TaΓ­na Larot and Terry Lovette  β€” all of whom have played a crucial role in LaBeija’s life β€” as representations of the artist.
